Exploring an Abandoned Elementary School in Desert Center, CA
Desert Center, California, shares a unified school district with the nearby town of Eagle Mountain, which once provided the kids with a junior high and high school. At its peak, Eagle Mountain was home to 4000 people with many working at the iron mine owned by Kaiser Steel.
After the mine ceased operation in 1983, most of the Desert Center schools closed. The Eagle Mountain high school was converted into a K-8 elementary school, and now the only high school nearby is in Blythe, 60 miles away. Join us as we explore what remains of this abandoned elementary school.
