How I Prepare a Design for WordPress Development
Web-Crunch
Hi, My name is Andy Leverenz. I design, code, and am an author of things. Check out my agency called Couple of Creatives (https://coupleofcreatives.com) and my blog Web-Crunch (https://web-crunch.com)🤘🏻
=====
I use WordPress for a variety of projects. I have to say that I have a love-hate relationship with it for many reasons. I'll save those for another time but for the most part, it's a great content management system that gets the job done.
My WordPress development workflow has evolved in the past couple of years. I used to make use of different tools and was scared of the command line. Slowly but surely I got more comfortable with my approach and now really love it.
When handing a site off to a client my agency Couple of Creatives prefers to allow the ability for a logged in user to add or edit existing content. The reason for this is two-fold. First, to appease the client and make their lives easier and second, to keep the client from contacting us to make trivial changes. A lot of time can be wasted and as the saying goes, time is money.
The video that lays before you is a walkthrough of me setting up a new theme for a current project. Some resources and tools I use are listed below during my WordPress development:
WordPress: https://wordpress.org
Underscores Starter Theme: http://underscores.me
Gulp: http://gulpjs.com
iTerm2: http://iterm2.com/
Sublime Text: http://www.sublimetext.com/
Sass: https://sass-lang.com/
As always there are many ways to accomplish the same thing. Your own process may vary but I wanted to share my own as a chance to start a discussion around the topic of WordPress theming, tools, etc...
