2020 DIYTyler Shop Refresh | Epoxy Garage Floor | Painted Ceiling

When we first setup the shop in the new space over two years ago I think every one of you guys said I should paint the ceiling, I didn't but now in 2020 we are gonna refresh the DIYTyler Shop with an Epoxy Garage Floor kit and paint the ceiling white to REALLY brighten the space up!

Started by taking the lights down and putting up plastic drop cloths so that I could use my trusty Graco x17 Pro airless sprayer to apply the Zinsser paint/primer in one white ceiling paint. We were able to apply two coats of paint with the 5 gallon pail of paint that Rust-Oleum was gracious enough to send to us for use in this shop refresh.

Once the ceiling was painted it was time to focus on the floors which we were going to cover with Rust-Oleum's RockSolid epoxy garage floor kit. I made sure to protect the work surfaces of the tools before moving them out of the climate controlled shop and into the barn to make room for coating the floor. With the shop size of 480sqft it would take a few kits of epoxy to cover the entire floor so I chose to do it into parts, this also allowed us to leave the table saw and assembly table in the shop so that I didn't have to take them apart to paint the floor.

Vacuumed and cleaned up the floor and following that up with Rust-Oleum Cleaner and de-greaser. Used a wet dry shop-vac to make sure I had removed all the cleaner properly. I then filled any cracks with a Rust-Oleum concrete patch and repair, also a two part epoxy. Since this shop floor was already coated with some type of paint Rust-Oleum suggested that I used their concrete and garage floor primer instead of the included acid etch. Applied that and followed up with the coat of gray RockSolid, without, the paint chips and then topped it all off with a coat of Clear coat epoxy. The result is a showroom shine that is SUPER easy to vacuum now!
