Making a Compound With a Great Smell: Benzoin

In todays video we are going to make some benzoin. Benzoin is an organic chemical with a great smell. It is made via the benzoin condensation of benzaldehyde (which is actually an addition reaction). As a catalyst I am using highly toxic potassium cyanide which is why you should not repeat any of this at home. You might use thiamine instead of potassium cyanide. The benzoin made in this video will be used to make benzilic acid.
