Simple Keepsake Box
The Traveling Crane Woodcraft & More
Hey Everyone!
Here is a short video of a simple keepsake box I made for my son. I don't go into detail on how I made this box, as it is as simple as putting wood together to create a box, give it a lid and a bottom, then BAM, you have a box. But with that said, if you are new to building and would like to make this, please feel free to ask any questions. As always, Happy building and I will see you in the next video!
All the Best, M
I used leftover hobby boards I got from Lowes. I want to say, 3.5in wide for the sides and I used 5.5 in wide board for the lid and bottom. Because I used leftovers, my box is small. I would have loved to make it larger,
Lid: 5.5in x 7.25in Sides: 3.5in x 7.25in (2) and 3.5in x 5, 3.8in (2) these are approximates, I had to make a few tweaks because I cut the ends at a 45° bevel. but the box is square and the bop fits :) Bottom: in the video, I just placed the completed box on the wood and traced the inner opening onto the wood and cut. I had to tweak and sand a bit to get the bottom to fit snuggly, but it worked. rough Est: 4.5in x 6.25in
You can use a miter saw to build this or a pull saw. either way works. I used a 220 grit sandpaper, Varathanes, Early American stain and Polyurethane. I added fabric to the bottom of the box because I was not quick enough to wipe away the glue and caused the stain not to adhere. So make sure you clean off the glue so you will not have this headache later.
I used my Cricut and an old design I made years ago. Of course, this is optional. but if you are interested in the stencil and transfer tape I used and prefer, links to everything will be below.
