How to Host a Plex Watch Party - NEW "Watch Together" Feature

Free online streaming service Plex has a new watch party feature called Watch Together that allows users to enjoy shows and movies with their friends. Watch this video to learn how to host a watch party on Plex.

To start out, you’ll need to have added the people you want to invite to your watch party to your Plex friends list. To add a friend, tap the menu icon in the top left corner. Then tap the Users & Sharing icon. Tap the plus sign in the top right corner. Now select Invite a Plex User. Type in your friend’s username or email address, then tap Invite a Plex User. Once they accept your friend request, they will be added to your friend list.

To start up a watch party, first select the movie or show you want to watch with your friends. Then, tap the three dots to the right of the title. From the menu that appears, select Watch Together. Now, select the friends you want to invite to join your Watch Together session, then tap Done. Once they’ve received and accepted your invitation, a new Watch Together row will appear at the top of each person’s Plex app. Once everyone has joined in, your media will begin playing automatically.

During a Watch Together session, you can choose your favourite chat or video calling service and talk about what you’re watching with your friends. Currently, the Watch Together feature doesn’t have a built-in chat function. If anyone pauses, fast forwards or rewinds the show or movie, everyone’s playback will be affected. The only playback settings each person can control independently are volume and subtitles.
