Don’t want people to be able to read your text messages without your permission? Watch this video to learn 4 different ways to hide text messages on iPhone.
One way to hide your text messages on iPhone is to turn off text message previews in notifications. This way people won’t be able to read snippets of your messages on your lock screen. To turn off message preview in notifications, open your Settings. Scroll down and select Messages. Then tap Notifications. Tap Show Previews. Then select Never. This way when you get a message notification it will only say who the message is from and not show any part of the message content in your notification.
Another way to hide your text messages on iPhone is to lock your Messages app with a passcode. To add a passcode to your messages app, open your Settings and select Screen Time. Then tap App Limits. Tap Add Limit. Tap the arrow beside Social. Then select Messages. Tap Next. Normally this feature is used to limit screen time, but since we want to use it to keep a passcode lock on the Messages app all the time, set the allowed screen time to just one minute. This is the lowest available time option. Then tap Add in the top right corner. Then go back to the main screen time settings page and select Lock Screen Time Settings. Now you can set up a passcode for your screen time lock. This will be the code you use to unlock your Messages app after you’ve hit the 1 minute limit for the day. To unlock your Messages after hitting the limit, tap Ignore Limit. Then you can choose to unlock for 1 minute, 15 minutes, or for the rest of the day.
If you’re using iMessage, there’s a special message bubble effect called Invisible Ink that will blur out your messages so people can’t read your conversation over your shoulder. To send a message with the invisible ink effect, type out a message in your iMessage conversation as normal. When you’re ready to send it, hold down the blue arrow to access screen effects. Then select Invisible Ink to give a pixelated effect. Tap the blue arrow to send it. To view your message, your friend can swipe their finger over the message to reveal it. After a few seconds it will go back to being pixelated.
The last option to hide your text messages is to simply delete messages after you receive them. You can delete the entire conversation, or delete individual messages. This isn’t the most ideal since then your messages are completely gone rather than just hidden, but it would prevent anyone else from seeing them.
