To customize your iPhone home screen in iOS 18, first hold down one of your app icons and select Edit Home Screen. The first big change is that we can now arrange app icons and widgets however we like. They no longer have to be in full rows starting from the top of the screen, so if you’d like to change your app layout to not cover up part of your wallpaper image, or want to make things more easily accessible, you can do so. You can also edit the size of some widgets when editing your home screen. If you see a highlighted corner on your widget, you can easily drag that corner to resize your widget right on your home screen.
We can also edit the appearance of app icons now. Tap Edit in the top left corner, then select Customize to get options to change the style of your app icons. In the menu at the bottom, you can choose to have small or large app icons. The small option is the default size we’re used to. The large one makes app icons and widgets a little larger and removes their labels. This gives a really nice clean look with a bit less space between icons.
Another way to edit your app icons is to choose between light and dark styles, or choose automatic to have your app icons switch between light and dark depending on the light/dark setting of your device as a whole. You can tap the sun icon on the left to make your wallpaper dark or light separately from your app icons. If you select Tinted, you can add a coloured tint to your app icons to make them more cohesive. Use the coloured sliders at the bottom to choose the tint colour. You can tap the dropper icon to select a colour from your wallpaper to use as the tint. The style settings will apply to all pages of your home screen. Tap outside of the menu to exit customization mode.
