How to Change Snapchat Screenname + Why You Can’t Change a Username

Snapchat doesn’t allow users to change their username for security reasons, but you can change the display name people see when you send them snaps, or create a new account if you’re looking to get a new username.

To change your display name on Snapchat, open the app and tap your profile icon or bitmoji in the top left corner. Then tap your name where it appears below your snapcode. Erase your current display name, then change it to whatever you want it to be. To save your changes, tap Save. This name will be displayed when you send snaps to your friends, as well as on your story. You can change your display name at any time.

If you’d like to get a new username on Snapchat, you’ll need to make a new account. To do this, log out of your current account by tapping your profile icon. Tap the gear in the top right corner. Scroll down to the bottom and tap log out. To confirm, tap Log Out. Tap Sign Up. Enter your first and last name, then tap Sign Up & Accept Then enter your birth date. Tap continue. Choose a username, and tap continue. Then set a password. Tap continue again. Enter your email address. Now, enter your phone number to verify your account. You’ll receive a text message with a verification code. Enter the code you receive, then tap Continue. To easily add your friends on your new account, tap Continue. Then tap OK to allow Snapchat to access your contacts. Next to the name of each friend you want to add, tap the Add button. When you’re done, tap Continue at the bottom. Now you can start using your new Snapchat account as you normally would.
