Here is a tutorial on how to do a light leak tutorial on, davinci resolve 16 using the open FX.

Hey everyone so in todays tutorial im going to be teaching how to create one of my favourite transitions using light rays in davinci resolve. So yeh here are a couple of examples of the transition being used in one of my recent videos.

Lets start with the basics of this transition. Firstly get the two clips that you are going to have the transition between onto your timeline. Ive already graded and stabilized these clips, if you want to know how to do this ill leave a link up right now to my previous video explaining how to grade.

When using this transition ideally you want two clips that are shot in good sunny conditions. YOur gonna come over to the lefthand side on the edit tab, and click on Open FX and scroll down to light rays. Then you going to drag and drop it over on the first video on your timeline.

Clip is gonna look bright, right hand side, click open fx. Toggle source threshold to 1.0 for no rays, to 0.0 for lots of rays.

So we only want the light rays at the moment of the transition. To do this we are going to the end of the first clip, and then use the arrow keys to go back 5 frames an put in a key frame here.

Everything up till the keyframe will stay the same as the value you assign here. So we change this to 1.0. Then go to the last frame of the video and set the threshold to around 0.4. Everything between the 2 key frames will gradually ramp up.

So for part 2 of this tutorial were going to add some radial blur on top of the light ray transition to make it look like this. Again were going to start with the 2 clips that were going to have the transition in between. Starting with the first clip, were going to add the light rays. This time however were going to get 15 frames from the end and add the key frame here. Second clip the same, 15 frames to the right

Problem about these 2 clips are that they are very different in the subject and the lighting condition so it doesnt look smooth. To make this look better, were going to add some blur to both of the videos.
