Pakistan Police Launch Mass Arrests on Workers’ Protest

Police in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, launched a violent crackdown on workers protesting the disbandment of the Public Works Department (PWD), a move that threatens the jobs of 10,000 workers. At least 17 protesters were arrested, and police deployed tear gas in an attempt to quell the unrest.

Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets, blocking roads and voicing their outrage at the government’s decision, which has sparked fears of mass layoffs and deepening uncertainty over their livelihoods.
