Milei’s New Victim: Pensioners

rgentina’s libertarian President Javier Milei has vetoed a law to increase pensions in line with inflation. Elderly Argentinians who rallied to demand an increase to their $179 monthly pension were met with brutal repression.

The law to increase pensions and help the elderly deal with inflation was passed by Congress but vetoed by Milei. He called anyone who voted to help the elderly “financial degenerates.”

Along with destroying pensions through inflation, Milei has also removed access to free and subsidized medicine that helped the elderly. As unions and pensioner groups marched in the capital yesterday, police used tear gas, pepper spray, and batons to beat down the pensioners.
