Why Narcissists Keep Coming Back After Leaving You - #hoovering

The reasons for #hoovering are not motivated by love or remorse. A narcissist #hoovers back into your life to rehook you as their source of narcissistic supply. Once they have you emotionally bonded again through their superficial charm, the cycle of idealization, devaluation, abuse and discard repeats.

Signs of #hoovering include the narcissist professing how much they miss and need you, flooding you with calls and texts, suicide threats, false promises of change, or veiled threats if you don’t return. Yet this remorse is almost always short-lived, and the abuse picks up where it left off.

Their new source of supply ran dry - they need to hop back to an old source. They crave the power and control they had over you. They miss your praise, admiration and stroking their ego. Punishing you by disappearing didn’t work - you moved on happily without them. They feel jealous - you are doing better without them or dating someone new. They are bored and lonely - their false self cannot truly connect. To sabotage you and regain the upper hand if you are thriving. They need a favor such as money, a place to stay or other practical support. To gaslight you into thinking the abuse wasn’t that bad. They like the thrill of the push-pull, make up-break up cycle. Their lies, cheating, and devaluation got exposed - they scramble to re-idealize you. They feed off keeping you stuck in limbo, emotionally bonded but mistreated. Essentially, #hoovering allows the narcissist to regain control and secure narcissistic supply. In contrast, true love is consistent, empathetic, respectful and values your needs as much as their own. Learning to spot the manipulative signs of #hoovering helps prevent further abuse and empower your healing journey. You deserve to be cherished for exactly who you are by someone capable of genuine reciprocation. Never forget your worth.
