They Use Circular Arguments : A Disturbing Narcissist's Gaslighting Example

Narcissists utilize impossible circular reasoning to #exasperate and outlast victims during confrontations over the narcissists’ callous behaviors. These #repetitive loops of denial and #projections entrap targets struggling in vain to be heard. Eventually, the narcissist’s endurance for dizzying spin wins by exhausting the target’s plausible fight for truth and justice.

Around and around you’ll travel trying to pin a narcissist down to take accountability. Each time the narcissist evades ownership by redirecting blame back at their victims with inane examples framed as equal offenses caused by the target “last month” or “last year.” These #fabricated parallels seldom exist, but ensnare victims in protestations to disprove tall tales spun on the spot.

Caught off guard, the target gets derailed arguing the narcissist’s bizarre false equivalences. The initial issue raised then gets obscured within these endless rabbit holes of denied wrongdoings matched illogically to unrelated pseudo-crimes the target supposedly did.

Another scheme narcissists frequently engage in is citing selectively #idealized periods early during #lovebombing phases as “proof” they were once sincerely invested and caring. They weaponize recalled snippets of highly edited, fictionalized memories of special treatment they once conveyed during their charming façade. But it was all ultimately Manipulation - not actual love.

Nonetheless, they wield these rose-colored accounts of their past playacting to imply targets are ungrateful or lying about long-term deprivation and cruelty endured under the narcissist’s cold #indifference post- securing the relationship status they sought. This again puts stunned targets on defense calrifying how brief that initial garden of Eden period was before awakening to enduring #stonewalling, putdowns and denial of #affection.

The intense frustration extrapolated by narcissists’ impossible hypocrisy and denial tactics often triggers targets to show visible upset. Targets raise their voice in protest which the narc is counting on as more “proof” of the target’s supposed history of unmanaged overreactions. Rather than mirror calm and stay solution-focused, the target has now shown visible emotion which the narcissist exploits as “evidence” supporting their projections.

Wisening up to the reality you face an unreasonable opponent immune to logic or honor means learning to not hold up any hope of closure or mutual understanding continuing dialogue. Break contact completely with narcissists once their circular tactics make evident no accountability will get embraced.

Verbal footwork trying to capture the unattainable is best avoided. Don’t get further pulled into rabbit holes of fiction meant to distance topics from the narcissist taking ownership for harm inflicted. Repeatedly redirect back to factual wrongdoings initially raised requiring addressing by the narcissist. If they refuse staying focused on matters needing resolution, then forge #nocontact moving forth.
