The sweet and charming facade many narcissists initially present is just a mask covering their true self-centered and controlling nature. When their targets stop complying with their unreasonable demands, the first glimpse of the narcissist's real rage and sense of entitlement emerges from beneath the mask.

When we empower ourselves by establishing boundaries and refusing to give into manipulation, the narcissist feels they are losing control over us. Their once sweet facade quickly morphs into desperation as they ramp up their abusive tactics to regain their supply of attention, praise, and deference. Staying detached is key to retaining our inner power.

Seeing through the false mask to the narcissist's true rageful self can feel jarring, but it also presents an opportunity for targets to wake up, recognize the abuse, and begin taking steps to free themselves. The narcissist's mask slipping is a blessing in disguise, as it demonstrates to targets that the charming persona was just an act to hook them in initially. The real person beneath is someone altogether different.

When we observe the narcissist's reactions non-judgmentally and avoid getting entangled in their drama, we remain centered in our own worth and strength. Attempting to get revenge or react just lowers us to their level. The most powerful move is to walk away, rebuild our lives, and flourish - leaving the narcissist behind stuck in their endless patterns of deception and abuse. The truth about them has been revealed - we now have the choice to free ourselves.
