How To Swap RC Power Connector - Soldering How-To; So Tidy!

Need a different battery connector on the car to match your batteries? Here's how to solder your RC ESC battery connectors, plus the tools and technique to make it tidy and safe.

During the Redcat Gen 8 V2 review I had the opportunity to film a power connector change on the ESC. Here's how I do mine, leaving them looking like they've come from the factory. No mess, nice and tidy!

In summary:

1. Have a clear workbench
2. Have solder that includes a flux core and ideally has 50% lead, +/-10%.
3. Have a clear soldering iron tip.
4. 'Tin' the wires and connectors you're going to solder.
5. Slide heat shrink tubing over the wires you're going to join.
6. Heat the connector and add a little solder then insert the tinned wire.
7. Once it visually 'melts' together, remove the iron and keep it still until it cools and hardens.
8. Slide the heatshrink down over the join and apply hot air.
