Your Software Job is not to be Clever-- it's to produce

As software developers, we can easily get caught up in code quality and elegance. I can personally point to a lot of code that I'm very proud of because of how clever it is. But sometimes, we forget the goal is to produce. Clever code gains us the respect of our fellow devs... but it's the production that gains us the respect of clients, employers, and users.
