It Lives! Ubuntu Unity (Remix): The Return of an Old Favourite
OldTechBloke
We live in strange times indeed, especially when it comes to tracking the changes that have happened to Ubuntu during it's lifetime. It started off using classic Gnome, then moved to Unity when the Gnome shell reared its very different head, and now it's returned to Gnome.
These changes caused major upset in the community at the time, but it's amazing how fast we get used to change. Unity may have started as an unwelcome visitor, but many people came to love it. In fact a huge proportion of today's Linux desktop users probably started with the Unity Desktop.
But anyway, things move on and in 2017 Unity was unceremoniously dumped, much to the disappointment of many users.
Never dead, but left festering in the outbacks of the Ubuntu repos, waiting for its time to come again.
Well its returned! This time in the form of the Ubuntu Unity Remix - a distro that has picked up Unity, given it a polish, and clothed it in a nice Ubuntu LTS jacket. Great news for Unity fans.
And it's good! Really good! And, can you believe it, the developer is only 10 years old.
Take a look and see what you think. I don't think you will be disappointed.
Ramble on!
