Extending an Barn Post with a Traditional Japanese Scarf Joint Kanawa Tsugi
Never Stop Building LLC
The posts in this barn renovation were two pieces tied together with framing lumber and hidden behind drywall. For the new room we wanted to expose the post so we decided to scarf in a clean new timber with a scarf joint that is used in these repair situations. We cut the old post and the new post with mirrors of the same joint, jacked up the roof about 18mm and let it down on the new post. It is a very strong and permanent way to extend a post.
