What Was the First Computer Made by Jacek Karpiński, Poland's Steve Jobs #inventor #machinelearning
My Dark Path
After World War II, Poland's communist leadership viewed resistance fighters as threats, fearing their courage against Nazi rule might turn against the Soviet-backed regime. So Karpinski, after being fired from a few jobs because of his wartime past, finally found work in an electronics plant, assembling shortwave radio transmitters. Four years after graduation, Karpiński was a key figure at the Polish Academy of Sciences. His first notable invention was a mathematical machine, a device that enhanced weather prediction accuracy by 10%. Then in 1959, he created the AKAT-1, Poland’s first analog computer that solved differential equations. He designed this gorgeous computer with the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. It was the size of a small desk and visually displayed its computations, a unique feature at the time.
