Havit 60% Keyboard Modding with Gateron Yellow switches and PBT keycaps Lock Down Project Off Topic

This is not a tutorial video – This is my new HAVIT 60 keyboard customization from brown switches and ABS keycaps to gateron yellow switches and PBT keycaps.

I like mechanical keyboards and I have a nice little collection of them. I bought this Havit 60 keyboard about a month ago and I’ve been using it everyday for work. I do like the keyboard but I wanted to customize it my way and here are the project highlights of what I’ve done. I upgraded the switches from Brown Tactile switches to Gateron yellow Linear switches I open each individual switch using a switch opener and lubed them inside to make it more smooth and less springy I suppose. It was really long to open and lube every single switch but it was worth it in the end. I opened the keyboard up, remove the board and the body of the keyboard. I pained the keyboard body with white spray paint around the edges so it looks like it got a black and white combo on it. I could have done a better job with the painting but I suppose it’s another skill I need to learn for any future off topic projects I want to do. I bought a cheap soldering kit from amazon; I haven’t used a soldering iron before so I watched tons of soldering videos to get tips and help on how to properly use it. It was really good learning experience to use one for the first time and to actually get to take the switches off and putting the new switches on. When the switches were put back together, I got some padded foams inside of the keyboard to reduce any extra sound from the board and I read on the reddit mechanical keyboard community its suppose to help with deepen the key strokes sound. The keycaps are double shot PBT keycaps and they are definitely an upgrade from the stock ones came with this keyboard. They are thicker and also; they feel very nice. Its not so much plastic feeling it feels more like smooth ceramic feeling on the key caps. I love the feel of this keyboard and I am very happy with the project.
