Theodore Robert Bundy, also known as Ted Bundy, was a notorious serial killer who murdered at least 100 women. Born on November 24, 1946, in Burlington, Vermont, Bundy had a troubled childhood marked by violence and detachment. Despite this, he graduated with a degree in psychology and fell in love with a young woman named Diane Edwards.
In 1974, women in the Seattle area and nearby Oregon began disappearing at an alarming rate. Suspicion fell on Bundy, who was seen luring victims into his car by pretending to be injured. His girlfriend of six years, Elizabeth Kloepfer, eventually reported him to the police.
Bundy was arrested but released, only to continue his killing spree in Utah. In 1975, he was rearrested for kidnapping Carol DaRonch and sentenced to 15 years in prison. However, he escaped twice in 1977 and continued to break into homes, kidnap, and murder more victims, including 12-year-old Kimberly Leach.
Finally apprehended and convicted in July 1979, Bundy received multiple death sentences. After spending nine years on death row appealing his sentences, he was executed by electric chair in 1989. Crowds outside the prison cheered and celebrated his death.
