Ryobi torch upgrade LED
Mike Makes It
I've got a couple of Ryobi torches that have the old style incandescent or filament type bulbs in them. What I tried to achieve in this video was an upgrade to a more modern solution namely the LED. I choose a cool white Luxon star type LED already mounted on its own heat sink. I powered it via a buck converter to reduce the 18volts from the battery into the voltage range of the led, 3.6v and limited the current to 600ma. The led was mounted on an aluminium plate just for a little more thermal action although it never seemed to get too hot. Whilst the light is quite good and bright I feel I need to open the reflector a little more so as the LED and sit a bit further in.
