Ryobi 4volt USB lithium system on test RC439 RL14-120G RB4L30 RB420
Mike Makes It
I like my Ryobi kit. If you've watched any of my videos you'd know that! Today I unbox a system that's been sitting in the workshop since July. Do not make the same mistake as I have. Make sure you register your tools within 30days of purchase or else you won't be granted the 3 year warrantee, just the standard 1year!! You've been warned. That aside, this is my first encounter with the Ryobi 4volt USB lithium system. Basically you could say it's just a miniature version of their big stuff. Well, actually it is very similar, but I like it never the less. I ordered the RC439 which is their sequential charger. It can charge 3 batteries but only one at a time, hence the word sequential. Just plug in 1, 2 or 3 batteries and leave it to do its stuff. Charge time is 60mins or 90mins for the 2Ah and 3Ah batteries respectfully. I like the little batteries and there is only one way to insert them into the tool or charger so even I cannot make a mistake! I noticed the 3 amp battery has what the 18volt system has and that's a "State of charge indicator". Sadly the 2Ah has not been granted this feature. Currently I only have one "tool" from the Ryobi range and that's the inspection torch. Ryobi do have other torches in the range to offer (and a shed load of other useful gadgets) but this I feel would be the best for me for the kind of work I do. The torch feels robust and has a top quality touch to it. A belt clip and a strong magnetic base is built into the design as well as an O ring in the battery cap area to keep out moisture. I could't see any information about an IPX rating for the torch so will have to assume it is just moisture resistant. The run time on the low lumen setting, and there are 3, ranging from 125l to 650l, is 32 hours with the 2Ah battery and 48hours when using the 3Ah. Pretty impressive I think. I've included links to Amazon and Ryobi should you wish to explore this range further.
