Keyless Lathe Chuck Upgrade
Mike Makes It
I made a spring loaded tap guide a few weeks ago to use on my lathe and pillar drill. Shortly after that I realised I only had a 13mm capacity in the lathe so I had to go shopping!
The video gives a look over on what I bought.
It a keyless 5-20mm chuck with a 3 Morse taper that suits my tailstock. The original 13mm capacity chuck was ok but I never could really tighten it enough to stop the drills turning when in use.
I did have to trim off the Morse taper shaft supplied as the only way it would secure in the tailstock is if I had it wound out 12mm. Easily done and all working fine.
The chuck is a tad longer than the old one so distance between centers is reduced but I can always swap back to the old one for the odd job thats too long.
