Laboratory Project: Bezier Curves Part 5
Math Easy Solutions
In this video I go over Part 5 of the Laboratory Project: Bezier Curves, and this time show how we can combine multiple Bezier curves to obtain even more complicated shapes. In this part I use the letter “C” curve formed from Part 4, and then duplicate it and modify it so that we obtain a letter “S”. This requires having two different sets of parametric curves but sharing one particular control point. To ensure that the “S” curve has a smooth transition at the connecting point, we need to ensure that the tangent lines match up at both points. We can do this by manually moving the control points around until obtaining a symmetric curve, or can even calculate the distances to ensure the tangent lines do indeed match. Also, as always in this Laboratory project, I show how we can manipulate the curve using the amazing Desmos calculator to obtain some pretty amazing shapes. The Bezier curves, and multiples of and variations of, are used in many computer-aided design applications, including laser printers, and even the letters and symbols you see on your screen right now! So it is important to understand just how these Bezier curves are formed and manipulated, so make sure to watch this video!
