How to Ping an Ip Address Using Visual Basic (Simple)

Greetings, today in this Visual Basic tutorial we shall be looking at how to ping an ip address or a url to see if it is reachable. We will also print out the latency/ping time for the user to see.

We can ping an ip address in Visual Basic by using the Ping class to send an IMCP echo message to a remote computer and receive a corresponding ICMP echo reply message from the remote computer.

We can use a PingReply object to store the results of a ping send. After we have stored the results of our ping in the PingReply object, we can check the time taken/latency in milliseconds.

We can return a -1 if something goes wrong with the ping attempt.
