Greetings, today we shall be looking at how to check if a number is an even number or an odd number using Java. This Java tutorial will only work with integers (whole numbers).

The first step is to get user input using a Java Scanner object. After that, the next step of this Java tutorial is to use a ternary operator. This is an advanced way to do a 2 condition if statment. This means we can have our code to check if a number is even or odd on one line of code.

A Ternary Operator is basically a boolean condition, followed by what to do if the condition is true and then what to do if the condition is false.

It is layed out by "condition" ? "Code for when true" : "Code for when false"

Ternary Operators are really useful to have at your disposal and this Java tutorial on how to check if a number is even or odd is a great example.

The calculation we will be doing to check if a number is even or odd is to do a mod. This is done with a % in Java. We are checking the remainder of a division. If there is no remainder when we mod a number by 2, it is even as it goes perfectly into the number as their is no remainder. If there is a remainder, the number is odd.

We also print out the result of if our number is even or odd.
