[NES Cover] PASSPORT.MID (Passport Please) - Windows MIDI
KYLXBN
My NES cover of the famous PASSPORT.MID (also known as Passport Please) composed by Passport Designs for inclusion on Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 - 98 systems.
I intentionally did not use any expansion chips but I think the result turned out nice. Some DPCM sample trickery was used in the end to play back the cuica samples while avoiding interruption of the drums which also play on the DPCM channel.
If I were to point out a shortcoming, the bass line is too quiet on the triangle channel, and raising the octave makes it sound silly. I could make the other channels quieter but we lose some dynamic range since the volume control is just 4 bits (16 levels) and it's already a bit low as it is (most notes are playing at level 8). I tried to supplement it with the square wave when there is an idle channel but that's the best I could do. I could have edited the emulation to make the triangle wave louder, but who am I kidding. That's impossible on a real NES.
I hope you like it, though! I tried my best to make this and it was fun.
