The socket tester with 3 neon indicators is demonstrated with the faults listed on the front of the device, and some other combinations which give very misleading results.

With 3 terminals and 4 possible states for each (L,N,E,None), there are 4x4x4=64 possible combinations.
3 wires connected LNE, LEN, NLE, NEL, ELN, ENL
