Rapitest Socket Tester (Part 1)
John Ward
A simple plug-in socket tester which uses three neon lamps to indicate the status of the socket terminals.
This example is about 20 years old, but similar items can still be purchased new.
Although these do work, they can only provide very limited information, and certain types of faults will not be detected such as N&E reverse, or where the earth impedance is too high to ensure disconnection times are met. If a fault or wiring error causes two pins in a socket outlet to be live, the result displayed on this tester will be totally wrong and misleading.
