Josh Sigurdson reports on the ground at the Colossi of Memnon, a massive, monumental set of statues in ancient Thebes, Egypt, now on the west bank of the Nile by Luxor. These statues were built for Pharaoh Amenhotep III allegedly in 1350 BC. The size of the statues are shocking. Both carved out of one piece of rock each and somehow dragged 420 miles from modern day Cairo, the effort that was put into building these colossal statues is unthinkable. Close to the Valley of the Kings, these statues were once known for singing. Ancient tourists came from far and wide to hear the statues sing. The singing ended in Roman times as the Romans renovated them, replacing a massive part of one statue with massive stone blocks after the statue collapsed. The statues have burn marks on them and also get inundated with water once a year. Due to the inundation, they've been seen as a symbol of rebirth and regrowth.
