Full steps can be found at https://i12bretro.github.io/tutorials/0263.html
- Log into the Linux device
- Execute the following commands in a terminal: # update software repositories sudo apt update # install necessary packages for https apt calls sudo apt install apt-transport-https ca-certificates curl gnupg-agent software-properties-common # add docker GPG key curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/debian/gpg | sudo apt-key add - # add docker software repository sudo add-apt-repository "deb [arch=amd64] https://download.docker.com/linux/debian $(lsb_release -cs) stable" # install docker sudo apt update sudo apt install docker-ce docker-ce-cli containerd.io # create a docker group sudo groupadd docker # add the current user to the docker group sudo usermod -aG docker $USER
- To run a basic Docker container, run the following command in a terminal: sudo docker run hello-world
- Docker will download the hello-world container and execute it, displaying following output:
Hello from Docker!
This message shows that your installation appears to be working correctly.
To generate this message, Docker took the following steps:
- The Docker client contacted the Docker daemon.
- The Docker daemon pulled the "hello-world" image from the Docker Hub. (amd64)
- The Docker daemon created a new container from that image which runs the executable that produces the output you are currently reading.
- The Docker daemon streamed that output to the Docker client, which sent it to your terminal.
