Tracking Changes editing your docs
David Allen
I was recently asked by a neighbour and friend to edit a book for her. The book was on a subject that I most definitely would not be interested in, but I thought it would be good to offer my services. I will be out to ask her to do an edit of my book when I have finished writing it. My first attempt at this editing process was using my iPad and iBooks. I was able to mark with the highlighter anything that I thought it needed to be changed. The only trouble was his that there were quite a lot of things that needed changing and I had to go back overall of this in person telling her the changes and why. So I needed something that will allow me to make the changes and also to add comments where necessary in a file that I could just give back to her.
On my hard drive I had a test version of the application Nisus Writer Pro and I thought I would open it up and see if it had some tracking changes facilities within. It looks like quite a good word processor although I will be unlikely to buy it at the price that it is, considering that I already have Scrivener and Pages. So if you're looking for an application that type do check this one out. I would certainly recommend it as an application that would be excellent for an editor wishing to track changes in a document.
My next test was to see if I could do change tracking within the Scrivener application. Now, Scrivener does have a revision mode, but this is not quite the same as having change tracking. Basically all it does is to let you type in added text in a different colour you have to make other notes within the text to let yourself know the words that you are changing from, in case you wanted to change back to the original text. So I came to the conclusion that Scrivener was not the apps that I was looking for on this occasion. Scrivener is most certainly the best application for writers and authors.
It is only recently that the application Pages has been updated to allow tracking of changes by writers and authors, in both the Mac version and also the iOS version. So I decided to give Pages a try to see how it worked out on a document that needed some changes. I was very pleased to see that the change tracking is very good. It lets you know the words that you how changing from and changing to within the document. You can also make alterations in the preferences to how you want that to appear. I like it to have a strikethrough for the words I am taking out and to see the new words in a different colour from the original text. On top of that you can also from the next toolbar that appears, saying whether you want to see all of the changes with or without the markings.
The price of the application Pages and the quality of the tools available for tracking changes of documents makes this the winner of th ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ykv5MDzqi9o
