Markdown Byword Blogsy Workflow
David Allen
I was listening to the pocket podcast and the presenter was having a chat with Mark Greentree who is an Australian podcaster famous for the podcast 'Not another Mac podcast '. he does his podcasting just for fun, but makes money by being a writer. as he was talking about his workflow for writing of surprised to find that he uses the application Pages as his tool for writing. Personally I tend to see pages as more of a page layout tool and any writing I would do prior to arriving at the Apple Pages application.
A problem with using Pages as a tool for writing is that when you put the text in another application quite often you will find that there will be with and wonderful formatting problems. This would be one of the reasons why I like to use markdown as an important part of my writing workflow, when I put text into another application it is going to be either completely plain text, or it will be in HTML format.
Mark sent me an email tweet to ask if I had made in the tutorial videos about using by word or using markdown and I hadn't done so specifically. So this is a video that is in response to Mark wanting to learn about a workflow for using markdown, Byword and Blogsy on the iPad and how it can be shared out to the Mac through iCloud.
There are many ways to skin a cat and I have to say that if you have a workflow and it works for you, then by all means stick with it. The workflow that I demonstrate in this video is something I have found to be very efficient and easily shareable when I go from one application to another whether that be on the iPad, the iPhone or on my iMac.
One other thing that I highly recommend as part of the process for a writer is to use dictation application. However good the Siri dictation is it is not a match for the dictation application and DragonDictate. DragonDictate is a Mac application so it is what I will use when I'm working with my iMac, but I am willing to put up with the slightly less accurate Siri dictation when using the iPad because I still find it quicker than typing on the on-screen keyboard.
