iOS Focus Modes Tutorial Setting up a home screen to work with Focus mode in iOS. Getting things done with Sorted3 and using a focus mode in iOS 15 to have no distractions. Getting things done using hyper-scheduling app Sorted3.
IOS 15 has given us another level of customisation and personalisation for the operating system. Combine the customisation within the focus mode with automation to make your day extra productive. In this video we are going to set up a home screen which will only show what’s necessary for starting the day and getting organised.
Here I have set up a home screen on my iPad and a focus mode to use it as the home screen and to hide all of the other screens. I’ve set it so that it appears at a specific time of the day – 9 AM in the morning. If this focus mode is required at any other times of day it can be invoked manually. You get to these focus modes by dragging from the top right hand corner to see the Control Centre view. With iOS 15 you get your Do Not Disturb, Personal, Work, Driving and your Sleep focus modes to start you off. Tap on the plus icon at the bottom of the list to add another. As you can see I’ve added a few already. Some of these are specific to using on my iPhone, such as the one for Travel.
Set up a new focus mode by choosing one of the presets. Fitness, Gaming, Mindfulness or Reading, but in this case we would want to choose the custom focus mode. In the next screen we can choose from a small selection of icons and colours and give the focus a name. Let’s call this one Sorted tap on next when you’re ready. In the next screen choose who you are going to allow calls and notifications from. If you don’t want to be disturbed this might be none whatsoever. On the next screen is the list of allowed apps for notifications. Choose the applications suitable for this focus mode. If you’re getting yourself sorted for the day you might want to include your email application and your apps for timers and reminders. We also choose to have any other time sensitive notification types allowed. You may need to be reminded about something you set up with a specific time and allow it to cut into this focus mode. Tap on allow and up pops a message to tell you your focus is ready. In this case it is not quite ready, so we will click on done and in the settings application we can go to the options for home screen to choose our custom pages. In this case I’m going to choose the custom page I just set up for the focus mode and leave the other ones unchecked.
This is not as drastic as you might first think. Whichever focus mode you’re in you still have access to any of your applications in the dock as well as being able to choose from the app library.
