SDL 3 -- A Decade of Improvements

SDL or the Simple Directmedia Layer, is one of the most important game development frameworks in existence. It provides all the low-level stuff game's need, like audio, keyboard, mouse, joystick, and graphics hardware via OpenGL and Direct3D. SDL has been used to make thousands of games, including most of the games Valve have released.
It's been over a decade since SDL 2 was first released and SDL 3 is just over the horizon and is basically a wish list of game development features that have popped up over the last decade. Things like handling modern GPU and GPU compute, handling touch and pen inputs and much more. SDL 3 is still in preview, but the most recent release reached stable ABI support, meaning that it's more or less safe to start using SDL 3 in your game or game engine.
