DEFOLD Game Engine Examples: PIXEL CRAWLER
Continuing to what we think is the best way to showcase a technology, through its games,, and in this case for the DEFOLD GAME ENGINE; Pixel art dungeon crawler currently in development.
In the case of the game, a we are looking a really cool and high standard cooperative shooter with an impressive pixel art style.

Our honest feedback
Actually, we fell in love with this game due to its cute enemies. They are so cute, that in the end, you actually feel bad to chase them through the dungeon and destroy them when they actually don´t do anything to you.
More than a game, it is actually a very draft prototype that shows the possibilities of the game, and through it, the possibilities of the Defold game engine.
We really liked the visuals of the game, the enemies, and the overall exploring of the dungeons, in the first minutes it is actually fun, as you move through the game and you start to see that there isn´t much more to do, than chasing the enemies, corner them as to be able to collide with them and finally find the door, it starts to become somewhat boring.
But as the game developer itself tells in the game homepage, it is still under development, and his currently somewhat blocked on how to progress with the game.
Our opinion, is that probably, giving more intelligence to the enemies, feedback on the actions taken by the player ( hit particles, damage effects, sounds effects) and having a clear goal for the level would certainly improve the game. For example, the doors could be closed, and we would have to found the key, parts of the key, or gems to open the keys, while avoiding the enemies, that could damage us, or if not wanting to bring damage/death, could lock us back on a cell.
In overall, a very interesting project and prototype.
