Make many mistakes and learn from them. Sometimes you just fail and that's ok too
EXARGEM
This is a brief view of how I approach painting a realistic portrait.
Painting realistic portraits is such a challenge for me that I have a love-hate relationship with it. However, the fact that it is very challenging is also what makes it the most impactful.
The challenge for me lies in capturing the subject's likeness in the portrait. Like many others, I fail more often than I succeed.
Behind every successful portrait in an artists' portfolio, there are countless more failed ones that others will never see. This is a thought that never occured to me back when I was still starting out with digital art. There is no shame in failing. It is a necessary part of learning.
Still, failing at capturing the likeness of the subject can be extremely frustrating and can even discourage some artists. Always remember that each of your failed attempts are learning experiences. When you become aware of what you cannot do, then you can work on it more efficiently. Even if you don't learn anything from a failed exercise, you will still come away from the experience a better artist, one with a stronger, tempered spirit.
