build simple functional vertical garden trellis for vining plants #garden #trellis #easy #build #diy

growing vining plants vertically saves space, reduces pests, allows better sunlight and air circulation, and simplifies harvesting. I built this trellis back in 2016 from scrap so it cost me nothing except about an hours time and a few woods screws. Its built from a scrap piece of field fence and scrap pressure treated lumber. I'm actually surprised its lasted so long with permanent ground contact but its 8 years old now. I wish i had a few more of them (on the to-do list). I've grown mostly cucumbers every year but also butternut squash, pumpkins, watermelon, and cantelop (or is it cantaloupe? Lol ). It works great and is a temporary solution i made that turned into a great idea. I posted pictures of this on my public Instagram in spring 2016. A few years after i made this, i have seen other designs on Facebook garden hack groups and similar, not sure if people had same idea or someone saw mine and based their version on it) but where mine differs is in the type of fence being used. Many are using hardware cloth or chicken wire and those the holes are too small for the intended purpose which is to let the vegetables fall through so you can harvest them easier from the bottom. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sunkkTjTx4
