The scan is performed from 4 vantage points using an engineering grade LIDAR device. The point clouds are registered and decimated, bringing the total point count to about 25 million. Raw data imported into Maya via a custom MEL script.
Some areas of the point cloud have solid white and red colors, that is because the scanner utilizes 2 separate sensors to triangulate the distance and measure RGB values. The color sensor has a blind spot near the alignment gauge that's where the error originates.
