Simple Automotive 12V Delayed ON Relay Circuit ~ Interior Lights
electronicsNmore
Some people for privacy reasons do not like to open their car door at night and have their interior lights come on UNLESS they need them to. This circuit is designed to allow the interior lights to come on only if you allow them to by holding the door open longer than you usually would to get in or out of the vehicle. This circuit can also be used for many other purposes. Once the circuit has been triggered, the circuit you are controlling(or lights), will not come on until a certain amount of time has passed(up to 30 seconds). After the circuit has triggered and the door has closed, there will also be a short delay going back off. The "ON" delay is determined by the Electrolytic Capacitor. Higher value = longer time. The circuit was designed to be very simple, but effective. The wire which supplies power to the interior lights would be cut and connected in place of the switch in the schematic. The other side of the wire you cut(which continues on to feed all the interior lights) connects to the relay NO terminal, and 12V+ is connected to the relay COMMON terminal. All GND connections go to battery neg/chassis ground. If your having trouble activating the circuit after the delay, make sure you are getting at least .65V at the base of the ksp2222A/2n3904. If not, try a slightly lower resistor value for the 47K.
