It Doesn't Matter (SA2 Ver.) 8 Bit Remix - Sonic Adventure 2

there are a million better sonic games than sonic adventure 2 and the reason people hail this one as the second coming of christ is because the 2010's gaming reviewers comprised mostly of rabid nintendo fans only played this one. not even the development history of sa2 is interesting as it is for many other less than stellar sonic games like 06 or even jam's sonic world mode. "B-B-B-B-BUH WHAT ABOUT TERIOS??" one interesting and neat thing does not make up for lacking in interesting shit to read about. sonic adventure 1 has a fucking killer development history and a ton of neat shit that people literally never ever talk about. my favorite bit of sa1 development information is that one of the earliest fully realized demo recordings of open your heart (which was also used as part of promotional material for a short time) was basically the exact same as the final, except for johnny gioeli not yet being the vocalist. in his place was eizo sakamoto, most notable for his place as the vocalist for animetal, who has a decidedly more raspy and wild sound. it's really fucking neat and has the charm of a japanese dude trying to sing in english. i was never at at all big on animetal because their guitar tones for a lot of the marathon albums are just painfully bad but some of their covers are alright. there is an earlier version of open your heart on youtube alledgedly sang by kenichi tokoi, one of the other main sonic composers, which isn't as cool as the sakamoto one. you appreciate sonic adventure 1 a lot more once you take in to account how many games were planned before it that just utterly fell flat and never were realized. everyone knows about sonic x-treme but to that i will raise sonic mars. sonic mars was a planned vidja adaptation of the saturday morning cartoon with fully rendered 3d graphics being developed by sti (sonic team was busy on the nights development, i believe) for the ill-fated american-exclusive addon to the genesis called the sega mars. the mars addon never came out but even without that fact it would seem obvious that sonic mars would never have come out in any event. yuji naka, the silly smug cunt he is, apparently saw some production shit from mars and just went "good luck [homosexual slur]s lmao" and then fucked off. when the addon was canned the team had to basically trash all of their old planned shit in exchange for an isometric style much closer to 3d blast before just up and canning the entire thing. this is where the foundation for 3d blast came from. tt made the game under the supervision of sti. people always go on about how sonic world in jam is the prototype for sa1 but if you look at some of the mockup screencaps that were made using the jam models they all look like dreamcast renders. the lighting, the enviornment models, all of it. it reeks of dreamcast which is why i'm not entirely convinced that they did any substancial development on the saturn like some people say. here are some of the screencaps by the way. https://files.catbox.moe/hfptd4.png https://files.catbox.moe/6ls7se.png https://files.catbox.moe/jbiq3a.png in the pic with all six clearly visable, it kinda looks like bottom left and right are on almost entirely pre-rendered backgrounds. the model of the tornado is also way too high quality for the saturn and considering that these screenshots are from a trade show during the saturn era it would be insane for these to be actual saturn renders. the biggest kicker is this one. https://files.catbox.moe/7j9788.png this is just straight up the prototype model that can literally be seen in the final game (see: the mission objective popups in sonic stages in the dc version) and if you look up the beta model, it's exactly the same. you telling me this is on the saturn? no way. at best the sonic world engine was a seed from which sa1's dreamcast development was able to sprout from. if you're a really insane sonic fan you'll know that sa1 supposedly started as sonic rpg for the saturn. there's a lot of conflicting information on the project just as there is with the early development in any event because there is so much shit to sift through. like seriously there is so much press material and trade show information and all that to the point where it becomes a slog to find every bit of evidence for everything. i like that, though. it's better than having boring nonsense like what sa2 had. last week i said i'd talk about video games and i think this is the most i've talked about vidja removed entirely from my insane theories and ramblings on this channel in a while. i like sonic, it's a great series. easily my favorite video game series of all time, always. thank you for watching have a wonderful day, gentlemen. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqWQEv-gzb4
