Class01 - Lecture 04 Beginners Maya -- Connecting up Character
Taking separate pieces and preparing them for animation
Set up rotation points
With an object selected, the insert key will allow you to move the rotation point of an object. Hit insert to return to normal.
A root is the parent of everything else. It is always a good idea to make the root an object of the most weight on the character. For a human, this is usually the hips. Leave the rotation point of the root centered on the object.
For the rest of the object, move the rotation point to where the character is going to rotate.
Parent body parts
Remember the old children's song for learning anatomy, "The foot bone is connected to the leg bone, the leg bonce is connected to the hip bone..."
Test out the character. Try rotating multiple objects at the same time.
