MAKING YOUR FIRST POUR!

I wanted to step back and reach out to all of you who are new to pouring, have never poured, or you are overwhelmed with all that out there! It’s ok to be a newbie! I was a newbie at this 5 years ago. I know the frustrations, they “why didn’t that work”, but also the WOW’s. So I wanted to walk through this very first step!

SUPPLIES YOU WILL NEED:

  1. Canvas (I always recommend starting with a small canvas)
  2. Paints. I started with craft paints – get them at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, JoAnn’s, Amazon, or any other craft store
  3. Pouring Medium - Floetrol, Liquitex, Golden, SargentArt (just to name a few
  4. Drop cloths. Yes, it is messy (but fun) form of painting
  5. Gloves – protect those hands. It is acrylic paint, so it will wash off – but gloves are a good thing
  6. Mixing cups. I use the 4oz cups with lids that I show you in the video – see my Amazon store for these
  7. Stir sticks. Again, you can get these at any craft store or see my Amazon store
  8. Measuring spoons – just get some from the dollar store
  9. Paper towels – be ready for the opps
  10. Push pins to elevate your canvas

For this pour on the 8 x 10 canvas, I mixed my DecoArt with the following recipe: 1 TBSP of paint 2 TBSP of Floetrol ½ tsp of water MIX THOROUGHLY

Yes, there are tons of techniques. This one today is the very basic way to pour. I hope you will come back as I will take you through each one!
