Scammers Are Using MY Name to Steal Your Crypto!
DB Tech
I honestly never thought I'd have to make this video, but here we are.
Over the past couple of months I've had multiple people send me screenshots of scammers pretending to be me.
The messages are all basically the same:
"Hello @username I was having a random check on every of my subscriber to know how they are handling the market sector individually, you're welcome to my discord, i'd like to know your name and where you're reaching out from ?"
The messages differ a bit, but are almost always the same general sentiment: they always devolve into asking about crypto currency.
There are several thing wrong with this.
- That message is REALLY poorly worded. Like really, really bad.
- I'm not interested in crypto currency. I think it's all a giant Ponzi scheme and I don't want to be part of it. If you're into crypto, that's your business. But I'm not.
- "random check on every of my subscriber"... I've got about 78k subscribers on YouTube. There isn't enough time in the world for me to reach out to that many people. Even if it's just the around 760 members of my Discord server, that's a LOT of people to "check on".
- The last, and probably most important thing wrong with this is this: I'm never going to DM you out of the blue.
I just won't just DM you out of the blue. It's not you. I'm sure you're great. But I'm not one to just randomly DM someone. I'm especially unlikely to DM someone I've never talked to.
Also, as I mentioned earlier, I'm not at all interested in crypto anything. I'm never going to DM you to ask about it. Never.
These people are trying to pretend to be me so they can scam you out of any crypto currency you might have.
If you receive a message like this, please do one of the following things:
- Just simply report and block the user and then go on with your day knowing that you didn't get scammed.
- If you've got some time and feel like having some fun, just waste their time for as long as you can, but never give them any details that are real. Fake screenshots or whatever they ask for, but don't click any links they send. Don't scan any QR codes they send. If you're going to do this, be careful. And always use a VPN just in case.
I actually received a message from a Discord member recently who goes by Kai after they received one of these messages from "me". We messaged back and forth about it for a bit and messed withe scammer for a couple of hours and just wasted their time.
Now, this doesn't mean that I'm going to do this for everyone. In fact, it was most likely a one-time thing, so please don't DM me asking for me to do the same thing.
So I guess that's it. I just wanted to let you know that this came is going on and has been going on for a while now.
Again, whether it's on Discord, Twitter, Facebook, Mastodon, Instagram, Threads, or wherever, I'm never going to DM you.
Also, before I go, there's one other thing. When you see those social media posts about "what was the top movie on your 8th birthday" or "what song was at the top of the charts the year you were bord" or "what was your high school's mascot" or "what color was your first car", Please don't answer those. Those posts are created by scammers to build profiles on you to hack your online accounts at a later time.
