My Recycled Hula Hoop Loop Antenna
Danny Shortwave And Radio DX
I recently found a Hula Hoop on nearby neighbors trash pile lol. I cleaned it up, disconnected the middle where the loop joins together and snaked in around 50 feet of solid copper AWG 14 electrical wire, it took some work to snake the wire and fish it out on the other end, for total of around 12 turns, connected each end to a 1 to 1 balun. The results was a surprise, it works well on MW and works good on Shortwave up to around 12 Mhz, even caught Longwave signal. On MW, a few nights ago I caught a Cuban MW station on 530 KHz Radio Enciclopedia by nulling out a local low power highway advisory station. Of course I can also swap out the balun and put a variable capacitor or a low noise amplifier with a bias T to make an active antenna. I will play around with this antenna outdoors and maybe mount it on the roof soon. lol
Please note this was a fun little project and not being scientific in any way lol.
