Why Didn't Particl Choose Ethereum?

Why is Particl built on Bitcoin and not Ethereum? Paul Schmitzer of the Particl Team gives a talk at an Ethereum Meetup in Columbus, Ohio about why Particl is built using Bitcoin's blockchain protocol, instead of Ethereum.
