SolderJS #134 - How to Strip and Solder Enameled Wire
AJ ONeal
Spoiler: Tinning the wire at 400ºC, instead of my normal 300ºC, is what worked best for me. ⌛⏱️Shorter video on just the best way: 🔥https://youtu.be/0YIT6MeaXT4 🔥
Enameled wire (magnet wire) can be a great tool for repair work directly on boards. Through trial and error I figured out how to make it work well for me, and now I'm sharing that with you.
I'll show the good results you can get when you
- Solder at 400º C (convenient and works well)
- Strip with an X-Acto knife (tedius but... exact)
- Strip with sandpaper (tedius and not as clean)
I also show some of the issues you run into when you
- Solder at 300º C
- Solder at 450º C
- Solder enameled wire without striping
This is an "amateur hour" video. In other words, I go through step by step in real time so that you can catch the nuances of my successes and learn with me through my mistakes. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XQj8H5HR3M
