There are many software developer portfolio projects and ideas that you can build.

But don't make your first project be your portfolio site.

Instead, you should purchase a theme. There are many reasons behind it. But the main one, because you are brand new, your first web development portfolio website is not going to be good.

It will turn off a lot of potential recruiters. Getting your first web development job as a self taught web developer is challenging. So always strive to put your best foot forward.

Instead, build your first five projects, and put the best ones into your portfolio site.
